I was lucky enough to go with some of my school
chums to an independent cinema arts center one night when this band,
Devil Music, was performing the soundtrack that they had wrote for
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The band of three guys, a Drummer, a
Violinist and a Bass player, was rather amazing. I walked away with
character’s themes stuck in my head, and I’ve been yearning to see
the movie with the new accompaniment again ever since.
All
I’m saying is that the performance was electric, and that this
already brilliant movie was brought to life in a very engaging and
accessible way. I was wondering if anyone else had seen the band on
tour, and if they had any comments to add.
Also, I believe
that a new DVD version of the film will hopefully be out soon with
the Devil Music track added in. If you can find it anywhere I
strongly encourage you to buy it.

I saw the Devil Music Ensemble perform their
score live with the movie in Salem. It was great. I wasn't sure
about how I felt about it at first. The jazzy rock style seemed an
odd fit but their individual themes for each character were terrific
and a few cues during the escape of the criminal had the audience
jumping.
After the show they were selling CD copies of the
score and I snapped one up. They have a website,
www.massdist.com/DME where I think you can order it and other CDs of
their music.
I'd love to see them try their hand at
Nosferatu someday.

I just came from a performance of Devil Music to
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. That was freakin awesome. The prog-ish,
jazzy rock added a real trippy, dreamlike atmosphere to the film,
and definitely made it more accessible. I couldn't believe all of
the subtle cues, like the banging of the drum when Francis was
knocking on Dr. Caligari's trailer door. It kind of reminded me of
one of Goblin's horror-music scores, like Profondo Rosso or Dawn of
the Dead. Lots of offbeat guitar tunings, very 70s-prog-ish. I also
love how the music at the carnival got progressively weirder.

Just saw the film with the Devil Music
performance at the Colonial Theater (http://www.thecolonialtheater.com/).
I've got to admit, the movie was good, but not my favorite, however,
the music was OUTSTANDING! I picked up the soundtrack for $7.00.
Parts of the soundtrack remind me of the band Interpol.
If
you have a chance to see this group perform, I'd highly recommend
it. BTW - did any one catch the typo in the dialogue, "asleeep"?

I went a few months back at the Ambler
Theater...it was amazing. I have a copy of the film, but silent. Do
you know if it's to be released with the DME's soundtrack or
anything of the like?
Col. Mustard: How many husbands
have you had? Mrs. White: Mine or other women?
